The Models of Therapy I use

My overall practice, however, is guided by; Person-Centred Therapy, Systemic Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Attachment Theory, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Neuro-linguistic programming.

Simply put these therapies do the following:

  • Psychodynamic work explores how your past experiences and relationships shape your present.  The insights you gain enable you to take change your life/goals/relationships.

  • Solution-focused Therapy uses the strengths you have to build on positive experiences.

  • Systemic Therapy rather than focusing on individuals considers how we relate and interact together.  It also explores how expectations, values and beliefs from our family, society, and culture are impacting us allowing opportunities for us to choose alternatives.

  • Attachment theory looks at the coping mechanisms we use at times of distress to reconnect with our partner and allows us to think about whether that coping mechanism still works for us today.

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy involves changing behaviours and emotions by challenging our unhelpful ways of thinking.

  • Motivational Interviewing considers how your language reveals your personal motivations and ambivalence around the changes you would like in your life.  This allows us to remove obstacles and facilitate the change you want.

  • Neuro-linguistic Programming uses language to change neural pathways and subsequent behaviour.

Our work together can draw from any of the therapeutic models I am trained in.  I ask for your feedback throughout our sessions to ensure that our time together is most useful to you.

I am trained at Masters level in Hypno-Psychotherapy (PgDip).  Hypno-Psychotherapy is not a therapy in itself.  I am qualified to work with you in a naturally occurring relaxed state making it possible to use  the models of therapy I am trained in with fast long lasting impact on deep psychological issues and illness. For more detailed information about Hypno-Psychotherapy please see Types of therapy - Hypno-Psychotherapy.

I have also practiced Mindfulness for several years.  If you feel it would be helpful I can introduce mindfulness based techniques and practices to improve your well being.
